Brighton Arts Club (BAC) becomes a victim of its own success.........

Right so last night a woman with schizophrenia held a pint glass in my face, told me I had no idea what she was capable of and spat insults at me. I have manged to stave of fear like that for a year and it has really thrown me. All because I wouldn't let her in the private members area where money and purses and stuff was kept and which is a private lounge (just an old cellar). It is with some regret that the galleries will now be by appointment only and I will instal an intercom. On public events I will now have minder and the cafe will be for members only. I have also decided not to take on any more artists in the studio spaces. Brighton Arts Club is a victim of an unexpected success. I am pleased in one way but saddened in another. Small changes to a big idea x

A Literary Movement At Brighton Arts Club

Can't express how excited I am for the future of our open mic. I think we may be on the cusp of a literary movement........I still want all your handwritten poems on any a5 sized paper for the book which will form part of our show 'Mean Streets' on the 22nd November and will be on permanent display thereafter. Really any poems you have read this year should be in there but I k now writing by hand is almost obsolete! Also, many years ago I was gonna be a publisher and my film company Goddamn Media bought 10 ISBN numbers, 9 are still free so we may as well do 9 anthologies for the movement over the next 9 years innit.....Pasha x

Postal address for A5 poems is

Brighton Arts Club
43 Providence Place

Notes from the VIP members lounge at BAC (Brighton Arts Club)

  • a quick hi from Pasha from the depths of the members lounge at BAC, I am not leaving the building till next May if I have my way! Looking forward to seeing lots of you on Thursday at 9pm for our regular OM and we will have a party afterwards as 2 of us have a day off on Friday. I am compiling a book for the cafe and thought it might be cool to have handwritten poems on paper that I can ribbon together. If you fancy that please bring with you on Thursday. Nothing too precious as things get well read here and there will be a red wine accident at some point....though I think that would add to the book myself. Love and peace and stay dry till then x

Events at BAC (Brighton Arts Club) this week 16th-19th October 2012

Wednesday 16th...........Vera Boing will be taking photos of her amazing sculptures which have been in situ here at BAC since the early days. They are pretty hard to photograph against the backdrop of our cathedral like roof but hopefully we will have some great images to share soon for those who cannot get to the venue.

Thursday 17th..............Our now well established open mic from 9pm and an after party for members, guests and friends of BAC as 2 of the crew have a rare Friday off

Vinnie Rose plays BAC on Wednesday 23rd

How do I become a member of Brighton Arts Club (BAC)?

Some notes for those who have asked recently.......Membership is automatic for those who have studio space, put on a regular night or give time and effort to the running of the club. We have a few friends who run the bar or who have painted parts of the club for example who are now members. You can also join for £30 a month which means you have longer hours at the club, often all night, access to the members lounge and half price drinks at the bar. If you perform you are a member for the night. You can also have a one day trial membership for £10 which works out if you drink a lot and want to get to know the other members and how things work. Anyone can put on an event as it is important that I share the space with as many people as possible. The space here is for all of us and there is no financial or creative agenda. If you charge entry to an event I will ask a 10% donation to help the running of the club and if you want a private party it is usually £50. I demand respect at all times as there is a great deal of amazing art and I will eject anyone, member or not, who offends in any way. Hope that helps.
