Busy Art Bees Make Honey at Brighton Arts Club

The upstairs floor is now filled with artists making their work and making an impact on the Brighton scene. We now have a charity which is setting up a gig buddy scheme working up there and no doubt their knowledge and input will prove as invaluable as the painters and photographers and model makers and light box makers and metal sculptors.......it is a long list and I am so pleased that the club is forging ahead as planned and developing a real personality of its own.

I will do some photos later of the vinyl records that are providing the backdrop for my latest work. I also have homework for this weeks open mic set by Joels Aunty I believe.......

Enjoy the midweek and get colouring in.....I actually have sun at the club!

Tuesday Updates at Brighton Arts Club

Tuesday Updates at Brighton Arts Club

Weather is awful but I refuse to moan.....let mother do that.
I sold nearly all of the home baked bread pudding that she made and we have ordered brownies for tomorrow.....tea and coffee is only £1 so come on by and say hello, not now as I have put the shutters down now to keep out the snow and wind and cold....no not moaning!

Later tonight I will launch the Countess of Brighton and Hackney Radio show on Spreaker......I was toying with various ideas for her production and have ended up with a  diarised version of events, important and otherwise, that the Countess feels make some sort of impact on the borough or the club.

It will be prudent not to name names................fear not.

I am also trying to finish my homework for open mic night. We decided at the last one, well Mirabah decided, that although I am not a poet or song writer, I should still do the homework in an artistic fashion. This weeks assignment is

Awakening in 22 lines.

If you fancy joining in pop along to our open mic on Thursday around 7-9....any later than that and you will need to call as I close the shutters.

The mezzanine studio is filling up with more talented people and I have two visitors tomorrow with an interest in renting space. We are now officially a non profit subsidised studio....the only one in the city offering such cheap rates in such a great community of individuals.

What is Brighton Arts Club, what do you do?

We are Brighton Arts Club and what we do is 'make art'. We are a non profit venue for practising artists and performers making great use of the best studio spaces in the city. Most of our studios are £20 per week which is the cheapest in the city. We are looking for serious practitioners who believe in what they can do independently and also what we can do as a group in these lean times. We are home to tv amd film producers, musicians, performance artists, poets, painters, fashion designers, model makers, jewellery designers, milliners and more besides. Our spaces include desk spaces, studio spaces, storage spaces and shop unit spaces and cabinets as well as gallery and exhibition wall spaces. The desk spaces and units are subsidised by Goddamn Media Film and Photography. We have our own radio show and TV channels which we are on the cusp of launching. There are still some units remaining on the mezzanine floor so come down if you would like to part of the next big arts movement in the city. We have our own gallery, cafe and bar and we would love to meet you. 43 Providence Place BN1 4GE next to Bartholemews Church. Check out our films on youtube for all the spaces or from our open mic nights and micro films. We are also on facebook.

Art Exhibition Space at Brighton Arts Club

Brighton Arts club is the coolest arts venue in the city with several exhibiting options available in a flexible space with a cafe and bar.

We hold lots of important events and functions here and we are open to the public 7 days a week.
We have good parking , good drop off facilities and are close to main railway and bus networks.
Our fees are subsidised by Goddamn Media film and photography and we are happy to host a private view and after party for your show.
Take a look at the video to see the space and give us a call for any proposals you may have.
Brighton Arts Club is in a regeneration area of Brighton where Mary Portas will be making her TV reality show and we expect to be fully involved.
We are also home to One Yellow Shoe TV productions who make films for Goddamn Media and Latest TV, Brighton's new channel.

We have two radio production teams who broadcast from here also.
The venue was once a club called the Harlequin and is as achingly cool now as it was then.

Energy Healing and Bread Pudding at Brighton Arts Club

We were visited today by a potential resident studio member who write music for adverts. Let's hope he chooses to join us as it would all work so well with the TV and film stuff already going on at the club.

Yve, my mother and proper-upper of the VIP lounge bar, is off to purchase cake tins as she is now my official club cake maker. Bread pudding will launch itself like a squidgy brick, just how I like it, with sugar on top, on Friday........I remember it bouncy but firm from my childhood and will risk recommending it in the hope that the matriarch (that's what I tell her) has not lost her touch.

Another film maker has phoned for space so looks like we are filling up at a reasonable rate.

Tomorrow my landlord is coming to sort out the shutter so we can all stop doing the limbo dance when we leave....it is tricky after a wine and tomorrow is wine night, I mean open mic night. That means a film so I best tidy the studio and the VIP.....Oh and don't forget also that Mirabah Joel Jojabo will be here from 5pm for energy healing.

News on our residents and spaces available

Friday seems to be quite an important day for the stalls and shop units upstairs. Amethyst Sky will be here to read futures and give witchy advise.....I hear that she is very good. And we have some other stalls setting up including furniture and clothes. I have sort of divided the floor into 2 areas.....one for practising artists and one for shop units or service providers who need public access........Fridays and weekends look set to be our busy times though you can open every day if you like or make appointment or run your online sales as we have internet. For only £20 it's a damned good deal and you could even share with a friend to get costs down.

We now have 8 permanent residents here at Brighton Arts Club. I have room for 8 more upstairs and 4 designer makers downstairs. The ground floor is an arts cafe and you would not run your stall in the same way as the guys upstairs who come in and make their own sales or do their work. Downstairs I have cabinets and plinths etc and the customer expects something more creative or art based. Also we serve bread pudding and coffee and hold our open mic and meet ups in the cafe so things need to be as safe as possible.

Please pop down to have a look and discuss any opportunities that you and the club can share together.
All spaces are subsidised by Goddamn Media.

What we do at Brighton Arts Club

We make art through collaboration and individual development every week at Brighton Arts Club.
Do not be lonely in your bedroom any more.....get out of your rut and join us for the biggest creative movement to ever hit town!

Our amazing warehouse studios are set in the centre of Brighton near the main transport routes. We are open from 10 - midnight seven days a week and are causing quite a stir in town. We are home to film makers, artists, clothing traders, even a healer.

We have some great business solutions for small practitioners here at Brighton Arts club all at only £20 per week.
Goddamn Media Photography and Film subsidises all the stalls and workstations so costs are kept low in these lean times.

At Brighton Arts Club we are hosting art exhibitions in the arts Cafe downstairs and also in the private members bar. We will do lots of PR for you and have a private view for every new show with a cheap bar. The shows are a great way to have exposure without a massive financial commitment and to get some networking done without the stress of a massive event. We ask only £20 per week and there are three areas to choose from. We have lots going on at the club, filming with One Yellow Shoe on the weekends for Brighton's new cable TV chanel, artists studios, musicians in the editing and production suite, the VIP lounge and bar for members, shops and fashion shows. Be a part of something fabulous in these hard times.
Brighton Arts Club is gathering momentum and we are already enjoying creative notoriety.

next to st Bartholemews Church

Micro Filming with Mirabah Joel Jojabo at Brighton Arts Club

Here is another in our series of micro films edited and directed by the club poet in residence Mirabah Joel Jojabo

We make the films quickly without rehearsals and on a mobile, even the edit is done on a phone.
The poem is written in advance.....though this may well change.

What is exciting about the films is there childish honesty and the idea that they cannot be overworked by planning and rehashing. Thinking on the hoof is rather like doing a quick sketch....practice will make for a tighter result no doubt and we will make at least one a week.
We are going to experiment further with techniques and improvised visuals as well as even shorter films.

More Gospel According to Pasha du Valentine

Are we all bored of high definition yet? We don't see with it, hear with it or fuck with it so why we ever wanted to make art with it....fuck knows

The Gospel according to Pasha du Valentine

I have devised a new method of working, hard to explain but basically if you are unsure of something do it more, double it, triple it even.....your first impulse was probably right and impact is a great tool.....

Drop in Life Drawing at Brighton Arts Club

Busy day as always on a Thursday but more so today as I have 3 doggy portraits following my article in the local rag.........two Staffies and a Rotty.......wow, Boy Cat will not be amused.

It was a really nice write up in the Argus though it does go to show that advertising in the local press is not cost effective. I had a half page spread of Alfie the chihuahua offering free portraits and only have three booked.
I am very excited as I never did a proper pet shoot before.

Photos up soon of course.

Also today I start the 'Drop in and Draw' lunch breaks.
Pop in with your own materials and I will pose for a life drawing lunch for only a fiver!

Get out the crayons boys and girls.......
